When it comes to the safe removal of waste, HIPPOWASTE™ is committed to minimising its impact on the environment and safeguarding the environment for future generations. Hippowaste acknowledges its corporate social responsibilities regarding the correct removal of waste and implements a number of measures to support local communities.

These include:
• Development and maintenance of an efficient fleet of collection vehicles used in the removal of waste
• Commitment to engaging children in the importance of waste and recycling
• Commitment to provide assistance to causes that have a positive impact on the environment or local community.

Minimising waste to landfill

The Environmental Protection Act 1990 doesn’t just set out your legal responsibility for the impact of your business on the environment. It protects you, as a producer of waste, from disreputable waste disposal firms. HIPPOWASTE helps you fulfil your duty of care – and avoid fines and convictions – by disposing of your waste ethically at a licensed facility. We’re instrumental in your commitment to recycling, typically preventing over 80% of waste collected from going to landfill. We provide you with clear reporting of landfill diversion and environmental performance that gives you a complete audit trail for compliance purposes.

Following the introduction of the Plasterboard Sustainability Action Plan by Defra, we’ve also launched a dedicated plasterboard disposal and recycling service. We can collect uncontaminated plasterboard on a national basis which is then 100% recycled. We offer a clear price per bag with no tonnage surcharges for a predictable, affordable service.

Acting responsibly

HIPPOWASTE operates an Environmental Management System in compliance with ISO 14001. We aim to improve our efficiency in the prevention of pollution, the use of more fuel efficient vehicles, the use of energy and resources, improving our recycling and reducing the cost to clients. We hold accreditation to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 quality and environmental management standards. In addition HIPPOWASTE is a member of the Freight
Transport Association as well as the SAFEcontractor health and safety scheme, RoSPA and the British Safety Council.

Our Fleet

Our liveried fleet of Leyland Daf vehicles enables us to integrate a nationwide collection service with our innovative HIPPOBAGs™ concept. Designed to support 1.5 tonnes at 4 metres, the Atlas cranes are capable of lifting fully-loaded bags safely over a variety of obstacles such as garden walls and can be remotely controlled from outside the vehicle for additional precision. A lifting rear axel aids manoeuvrability in restricted spaces, making it ideal for use in residential areas. The lorries’ high-sided bodies can carry 2 tiers of bags (20-22 MIDIBAGS, 14-16 MEGABAGS or 5 HIPPOSKIPS) – improving efficiency and reducing fuel consumption and emissions.

All of our drivers are fully trained, uniformed and directly employed by us. As ambassadors for HIPPOWASTE, they’re committed to prompt deliveries and collections and providing a consistent, presentable and professional impression to both you and the community.

Waste reporting

All business customers have access to our waste reporting systems. Of course all collections have a Waste Transfer Note to meet your legal responsibilities, but we also accurately report on recycling rates on a per customer and per project basis, giving you the information you need to need to help reduce the environmental impact of your business.

The Grants up for Grabs scheme
