Did you know that 1 in 11 UK adults replace an item of furniture twice a year or more? With furniture being dumped in landfill so frequently, even items that are in good condition, waste is being generated that could otherwise be reused or recycled.

Donating your pre-loved, quality items such as furniture, clothing, and homeware to a charity shop in Bournemouth is a great and simple way to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills.

If you’re looking for the best charity shops in Bournemouth to donate to, including those that accept furniture, our quick guide highlights the top places in town. From charity shops in Winton to donation spots in the town centre, here’s where to give your items a second life.

1. Salvation Army Charity Shop (Winton)

Situated just a mile north of Bournemouth town centre in Winton, the Salvation Army charity shop accepts a wide range of donations, including clothing, accessories, books, and small household items such as linens, tableware, and kitchenware.

You can drop off your donations during their regular opening hours. They also accept larger furniture donations, but it's best to contact the store in advance to confirm, as they may occasionally pause accepting certain items to manage stock levels. Please note that they do not accept damaged items or broken electrical appliances.

Alternatively, if you prefer not to visit the store in person, there are clothing banks available in the Winton area where you can conveniently drop off donations.

Your support helps fund the charity’s vital work, supporting around 650 churches and community centres across the UK and Republic of Ireland. It also helps provide services for people experiencing homelessness, poverty and isolation.

Address: 1 Latimer Road, Winton, Bournemouth BH9 1JY

2. PramaLife Furniture Charity Shop

The PramaLife Charity (short for Pain Relief & Management Association), supports older people and carers across the county, helping to reduce loneliness and promote independent living for those affected by ill health or disabilities.

There are two PramaLife charity shops accepting donations in Bournemouth. One is located on Wimborne Road in Winton, and the other is in a retail park on the edge of town. The Winton shop accepts a wide variety of donations, including pre-loved clothes, bric-a-brac, shoes, books, toys, and small household items such as curtains, glassware, cushions, lamps, and clocks.

The PramaLife shop at the Superstore Retail Park also accepts and offers free collection of large, saleable furniture — like sofas and cabinets — for those living locally. To arrange a free furniture collection in the Bournemouth area, you can email furniture@prama.uk or call 01202 207315. Please note that damaged, soiled, or broken items are not accepted.

If you’re planning to drop items off, it’s a good idea to call ahead to check on space and what types of donations they’re currently accepting.

There’s also a PramaLife Donation Centre in Poole, just a short drive from Bournemouth. It accepts a broader range of items, including bulkier donations, and offers a free furniture collection or drop-off service.
