Bold , bright colourful letters spelling out Brighton in a shopping centre

Over 400,000 charities are operating in the UK, supported by more than 11,000 charity shops across the country. These shops not only offer affordable second-hand goods to their local communities but also generate vital funding for non-profit work. It’s a win-win: you can declutter your home while making a meaningful contribution. If you live in or around Brighton and are ready to part with unwanted items, Brighton charity shops provide the perfect opportunity to give them a second life - and support great causes in the process.

In this article, we list some key charity shops in Brighton that accept donations, alongside their addresses, opening times and the items they accept.

1. The Sussex Beacon Charity Shop

When looking into Brighton charity shops, the best place to start is the Grand Parade. The main street cuts through the centre of Brighton and is one of the best places to browse if you’re looking for item-specific drop off points. The Parade is host to two shops for the Sussex Beacon HIV charity, a medical and lifestyle support centre for people living with HIV.

The Sussex Beacon Charity Shop on St. James’s Street is geared towards donations of books, DVDs and clothes and is open every day, including on Sundays. The charity also accepts homewares at their Sussex Beacon Home Store on London Road, where you can drop off sofas, wardrobes, bookshelves, bed frames and other good quality second-hand furniture. They even offer a charity furniture collection service in Brighton if you don’t have the means to transport your donations!

The charity is LGBTQIA+ friendly and serves to support HIV positive inpatients and outpatients in their day-to-day lives. The service is local to Brighton and accessible to all Sussex residents, and its non-profit facilities are located on Bevendean Road.

The BHF is well-known for its furniture collection service, which can be booked across Brighton and Hove at any of their local charity shops near you. The charity operates five shops across the city: one in Portslade, one in Hove, one in the city centre, and two on London Road. Their charity shops in Brighton are fully equipped to accept donations of heavy and bulky furniture, alongside certain white goods and electronics.

While the British Heart Foundation is well known for its high-street charity shops, its core mission is to fund life-saving research and testing to improve treatments for people living with cardiovascular disease. Too Many Items to Drop Off at Charity Shops in Brighton and Hove?

As with all charity shops, food banks and altruistic organisations, too many donations can become a bad thing. While charities appreciate every donation, they simply don’t have the space to store entire households of items that may not sell - they’re not large-scale operations! If you’ve got more to clear than local charities can take, you don’t have the means to transport your items, or they’re not in donatable condition – we can help. Our dedicated Brighton rubbish removal team will collect your unwanted items and ensure they’re disposed of swiftly and sustainably.
