Brighton Recycling Centres & Rubbish Tips

Everyone has that one drawer that’s full of used batteries in plastic boxes, just waiting for someone to know what to do with them. They’re not the only waste you can feel stuck with, either - aerosols, cables, laptops, phones and chemical bottles are all no-gos for the general waste bin, and they can’t be allowed to clutter up your cupboards forever.

That’s where our Brighton & Hove tip guide comes in! Discover your local recycling centres, their opening hours and addresses, and the vehicles you can drive into them. We’ll also cover textile and clothes recycling points and battery drop-offs across the city, as well as the best places to go to get rid of a wide variety of waste.

Hove Recycling Centre

You’ll find the Hove Recycling Centre just off Old Shoreham Road, north of the Aldringham Railway Station. The centre provides services to dispose of standard recyclables such as paper, cardboard, cans and plastic bottles, as well as more specialised facilities for electrical items and DIY waste. If you’re looking for a glass recycling bank near you, you’ll also be able to drop off glass bottles, pieces of wrapped window glass and mirrors.

Asbestos is also acceptable at the Hove Recycling Centre, although there are strict rules regarding its disposal: your waste must be bonded asbestos, it should be wrapped thoroughly and bound in two layers of plastic, and you’ll need to provide two forms of ID to prove that you live in the Brighton area. Never move asbestos without seeking professional advice first, and be sure to contact your recycling centre for guidance so you are prepared for the steps to take in advance of disposing of it.

Brighton Recycling Centre

The second tip in the area is a recycling centre along Wilson Avenue in Brighton. The centre is run by Veolia Environmental Services and is located opposite Vines Cross Road on the eastern edge of the city, local to the Whitehawk and Woodingdean areas. The Brighton Recycling Centre is slightly smaller than the Hove facility, and accepts fewer waste types as a result; however, you can still expect to dispose of a wide range of items such as general recyclables, hard plastics, garden waste and electrics. Unlike the Hove site, Brighton does not accept asbestos.

Bottle, Textile & Clothing Bank Bins Near Me

Drop-off points are the perfect alternative if you don’t fancy waiting in the tip line, especially if all you need to recycle is clothing or textile fabric. These bins work similarly to a post box, where items can be left securely and are picked up at regular intervals by the operating body.

You can drop off a wide range of items at bank bins, from bottles to metal, cardboard, paper and clothes. These items vary by bin, so it’s important to check what they accept before you tip up with your rubbish!

Richmond Parade

Richmond Parade is a general drop-off point located between the Grand Parade and Richmond Parade. The bin accepts everything from shoes, bags and clothes to detergent bottles, magazines and drink cans. You can find this particular clothes bank in the centre of Brighton, between Hanover and Seven Dials.

Address: By Albion Street, Brighton, BN2 9GB

DEBRA UK - Brighton store

If you’re looking for battery recycling in Brighton, you’ll have luck with most supermarkets in the city. You can also recycle your batteries at some charity shops, and DEBRA UK is one of the most central battery drop-off points in Brighton. Located on York Place, the charity shop is a convenient spot to leave your used batteries at the same time as making a donation or nipping in for some new clothes.

Address: 9-10 York Pl, Brighton and Hove, Brighton BN1 4GU

Opening Hours: 10:00am to 6:00pm Monday - Saturday, and 10:00am to 4:00pm on Sunday.

Whitecross Street

If you’re looking for bottle banks in Brighton, you can leave your glass and plastic bottles at Whitecross Street, a bin located just outside the Trafalgar Street car park between Surrey Street and Richmond Place. The bin accepts mixed recycling, as well as glass and plastic bottles, clothes, shoes, textiles, and cartons. It’s a convenient spot to drop off your rubbish, since it’s quite close to the city centre and located next to Brighton’s major roads.

Address: By Trafalgar Street Car Park, Brighton, BN1 4EB

Can’t Get to Your Brighton and Hove Recycling Centre?

Recycling is important, but delivering large amounts of rubbish to the tip can take up more time than you might have. It’s hard work to load up the car and drive out to the recycling centre every time you have an item that can’t be disposed of at home, especially if it’s bulky waste! Luckily, HIPPO can handle that task for you, and we’ll do it without you having to lift a finger. Whether you’re looking for a skip, a HIPPOBAG, or a man and van collection, we’ll pick up your waste and recycle it with one of our local partners, helping to lighten up the load of your local HWRC.
