Every year, around 350,000 tonnes of clothing and 670,000 tonnes of furniture are thrown away in the UK — much of it still perfectly usable. Donating to charity shops near you is one of the simplest ways to support the circular economy and stop good-quality items ending up in landfill. If you have larger pieces to part with, like sofas, fridges or other bulky items, many charity shops in Swindon even offer free furniture collection.

We’ve rounded up some of the best charity shops in Swindon that accept donations and collect furniture, so you can give your old items a new lease of life.

1. BHF Furniture & Electrical Charity Shop

Located on Bridge Street in the town centre, the British Heart Foundation’s Swindon store accepts good-quality preloved furniture, electricals and homewares, with proceeds helping to fund life-saving research. It’s a great choice if you’re looking for a furniture charity shop in Swindon or need free furniture collection — this store offers both.

You can arrange free collection for large items through their online booking form. Just share the details, and a team member will be in touch within five working days.

Smaller donations, like clothes and toys, can be dropped off in store during opening hours or sent via Collect+. The shop is on a pedestrianised street, so if you need to check vehicle access or have questions, call 01793 399515.

Some items can’t be accepted, such as used swimwear, electric blankets, tumble dryers or upholstered furniture without fire safety labels. If in doubt, give the store a call for guidance.

Address: 27-29 Bridge Street, Swindon SN1 1BP
Opening Hours: 9:30am to 5pm (Monday to Saturday) and 10am to 4pm (Sunday)

2. Prospect Hospice Furniture and Home Store

You’ll find the Prospect Hospice Furniture & Home Store on Hobley Drive in Stratton. This charity shop focuses on secondhand furniture, homeware and electricals, with all proceeds helping to fund specialist end-of-life care for people across Swindon, Marlborough and north-east Wiltshire.

If you have larger items to donate, Prospect offers a free furniture collection service for Swindon residents. You can book online by filling in the form or emailing vanbookings@prospect-hospice.net with your details, address and photos of the items (fire labels included where needed). You can also call 01793 376177 and leave a message — someone will get back to you within two working days.

Smaller donations, such as books and toys, are welcome during opening hours, but it’s a good idea to phone ahead to check they have space. Please don’t leave donations outside the shop.

The store has taken over the Middletons unit.

Opening Hours: 9am to 5pm (Monday to Saturday) and 10am to 4pm (Sunday)

3. Sue Ryder Charity Shop (Swindon Old Town)

This long-established charity shop on Victoria Road in Swindon’s Old Town is part of the wider Sue Ryder network. Donations of secondhand furniture, homeware and small electricals help fund expert palliative care and bereavement support.
